I became a client of Arpanna's on early ' 24 when she was part of a large group practice on which you gave your info, demographics, what your issues were and you were then assigned a therapist based on that info. My first thought was the therapist must have been assigned in a similar way a random number is generated by a PRNG algorithm, lol - because the demographics didn't seem to quite fit - me, a Caucasian male in his 50's dealing with leftover issues stemming from early childhood. Would she understand the subtle cultural influences that might be pertinent? Would her own cultural influences and lenses that she would bring to the table? I had been through enough to know that even when these are a 'perfect match', it's still a dart toss as far a personalities clicking, their approach, etc. one can go through quite a few and even when one finds an 'adequate' therapist, you often don't really benefit. The 'random assignment' has turned out to be the best thing that could have happened with respects to finding a therapist, a long term therapist, with whom I could build trust and a rapport with. I'd say at this point, the only one I could say this about - and I've been through quite a few across the spectrum. Arpanna brought a most unique perspective to my issues on ways that other counselors had not. The 'cultural differences' turned out to be major pluses, rather than detractors and offered windows into my issues that I would not have been afforded, otherwise. She's a maverick in her own cultural upbringings and that adds just another unique twist and perspective. Another major difference between this psychologist and others is the interactivity. Once the professional relationship is established, the communications become a two-way street - something I'd not encountered with other psychologists and therapists. If your idea of a therapy session is one where you will be lying on a couch doing all of the talking while a half-interested Freud-like character takes dictation with an occasional yawn and then reminds you your time is up, you will be disappointed (or as on my case, very pleasantly surprised). Be prepared to put in the work. There is a difference between those who are willing to put in the long hard work to becoming a better version of yourself and those who want to lie in a crib and have someone "fix" them. She knows the difference and she will let you know, if you don't. She calls bs when she sees it, so leave your mask at home. You'll find you really don't need one, anyway and it'll be a relief to be able to shed it. Could not, in all honesty, think of another therapist I could recommend more than Arpanna. David
